Background:
Anthology has been on a path to consolidate our Blackboard Learn mobile applications into a single unified experience for students and instructors. Our aim was to reduce the complexities of supporting multiple applications, whilst combining the benefits of Responsive Web Design (RWD), to bring the best possible experience as features being released into Learn Ultra’s desktop version would also become available straight to mobile. On Monday 8th August 2022, the updated Blackboard App for Instructors and Students was released to the Apple and Android App stores.
End User Benefits:
The new app combines what were formally student and instructor applications into one version allowing reducing complexities of managing multiple apps for Instructors and Students, whilst providing greater levels of capabilities in respect to course engagement, assessment and grading as the mobile experience will continue to receive the same features being delivered to Learn Ultra. This results in an app that allows students and instructors to seamlessly move their learning experience from their desktop to mobile and back.
Change Management:
Impact should be minimal for Students with this change, as any student using the existing Blackboard app should simply update. For Instructors, assistants, and graders they should download the Blackboard App from the app store and remove the former Blackboard Instructor app from their devices.Please Note: The Blackboard Instructor app will no longer be supported from Friday 30th September 2022, and will be removed from the Apple App and Android App stores. The app will continue to work on your device, but updates, enhancements and support will cease after this time. Users are advised to remove the app from their devices.
Next Steps:
As part of our focus on brand alignment, we are in the process of reviewing the iconography for the current app, with the intention of making updates in this area by the first week of September. Further information will be communicated around this as soon as possible.
