Service Pack(s):
3900.121.0, 3900.123.0, 3900.125.0
Description:

In Ultra and Original view modes, courses that contain journal entries with attached files using extremely long filenames cannot be deleted. When attempting to delete such courses, the deletion process fails, leaving the course in a disabled or inconsistent state.

Steps to Repeat:

Prerequisites: A file with a long filename exceeding typical limits (examples: >180 characters or >250 bytes).

  1. Log into Blackboard Learn with Ultra or Original Experience as an administrator
  2. Create and access a course
  3. Create a student user > Enroll this user in the course created in step 2
  4. As the student > Create a journal entry > Attach the file with the excessively long filename
  5. As an admin, attempt to delete the course created in step 2

Observed Behavior in Ultra view: The course deletion fails. The course is left in a disabled state and marked with a "Deleted" icon, but is not removed from the system.

Observed Behavior in Original view: The course remains available and is not deleted.

Expected Behavior: The course should be deleted regardless of the filename length.

Cause:

This issue appears to be related to the filename length exceeding underlying storage or path limitations.

Information:

This issue affects both Ultra and Original course experiences and appears to be related to filename length exceeding underlying storage or path limitations.
