Product:

Release:
SaaS
Service Pack(s):
3900.116.0, 3900.118.0, 3900.121.0
Description:

Users with custom system roles configured for Learning Object Repository access may encounter issues when copying documents containing embedded Knowledge Checks (KCs). These documents, when added to the LOR and reused in another Ultra course, may result in an "Oops error", improperly linked, missing KC assessments and inconsistent visibility for students. In some cases students can access KC items as standalone tests which is unintended.

Steps to Repeat:
  1. Log into Blackboard Learn Ultra Experience as an administrator
  2. Create two Ultra Courses
  3. Enroll User 1 as an instructor in both courses
  4. Enroll User 2 as a student in Course 2
  5. Assign User 1 a custom System Role Z (with LOR-related privileges)
  6. As User 1 in Course 1, create a Document with an embedded Knowledge Check
  7. Navigate to Ultra Navigation > Tools > Learning Object Repository (LOR)
  8. Use Copy Items and select the document created
  9. Observe that a test is also copied and placed in the Undeployed Tests folder
    • Attempt to open the test > Got Oops error
  10. In Course 2, go to Course Content
  11. Click on + > Learning Object Repository and copy the document into the course
  12. Attempt to open the copied document
    • Observed Oops error again
  13. Retry the copy process, but this time manually open Undeployed Tests and select the KC test
  14. Copy both the Document and its associated Test
  15. Open the newly copied document and observe that it works, while the first one still throws an error
  16. Set both documents to Visible to Students; keep the test Hidden
  17. As User 2, access the course and open both documents
    • KC questions are not visible
  18. As the Instructor, set the test to Visible
  19. As a Student, open the documents again
  20. Click on the Knowledge Check question

    Observed Behavior:

    • Document copied without its linked KC throws an "Oops" error.
    • KC test appears in Undeployed Tests folder without clear linkage.
    • Student cannot view KC unless test is made visible.
    • KC behaves like a standalone test with full attempt submission.
    • Final document may remain corrupted with missing KC linkage.

    Expected Behavior:

    • LOR should not allow copying a document with KC unless the linked KC is also copied.
    • If KC tests are exposed, there should be clear identifiers tying them to their parent document.
    • KC should not function as standalone tests for students.
    • Students should always see the complete document including KC when permitted.
    • Final grade and visibility states should be correctly rendered and accessible.
